When to use this instead of the regular RD calculator
The maturity calculator is the right tool when you already know the monthly installment and the tenure (typical for salaried savers who set aside a fixed amount on payday). It shows you the date when the RD will close, the maturity amount, and the breakup between your deposits and the bank's interest contribution. If instead you have a target amount in mind — say, you want ₹5,00,000 in three years for a wedding — you should reverse the problem: pick the tenure, and divide the target by the maturity factor for your bank's rate to find the installment.
Most Indian banks offer RD tenures from 6 months to 10 years in 3-month steps. Tenures that overlap a financial-year-end are useful because the interest accrued (not just paid) counts toward your taxable income each year — it does not all hit you in the maturity year. This makes RD interest a relatively predictable item in your annual ITR.

For a goal of ₹4 lakh in three years, ₹10,000/month is almost exactly right. To target ₹5 lakh in the same tenure, you would need to step up to about ₹12,460/month at the same rate.
